(In)Fertility in Atlanta: You are not alone.

Having a family was something you dreamed about – consciously or unconsciously. Maybe you thought you would be a parent at a certain age. Or that you would have 3 or 4 kids. Or that you would build a successful career, then meet the partner of your dreams, and then have kids. Or maybe you envisioned the way your child would look, the names you would consider, or the values you would instill. Whatever the vision, you believed you were in control of making the dream come true.

Then infertility happened. This thing you are facing that has completely changed your life in ways you never imagined. The fears, expense, frustrations, losses. These encompass what psychotherapist Janet Jaffe, Ph.D., calls “reproductive trauma.” It is real and it is life altering.

When you are faced with infertility, it can feel like you are alone in the world. The only one not pregnant. The only one who wasted 10 years of birth control. The only one who has to undergo countless doctors’ appointments, ultrasounds, blood work, injections. The only one who truly feels the weight of longing in every breath.

The fact of the matter is that 1 in 8 couples experience infertility. For couples over 35, it’s 1 in 5. Look around you. Maybe right now you are in a coffee shop, a library, or at work. Maybe you’re surrounded by strangers, maybe you’re surrounded by friends. The likelihood is high that someone nearby is also experiencing infertility. Yet, this is a crisis and a diagnosis that people rarely talk about.

Wherever you are on the journey – whether exploring fertility treatment options, pursuing IUI or IVF, grieving an IVF or pregnancy loss, or considering surrogacy or adoption, we can help you feel a lot less alone. We will guide you to tools, resources, and people where you can find help navigating and making meaning on this journey.

You are not alone. We are here to help.
